A 17-year-old boy from Manassas, Virginia, is facing a laundry list of criminal charges after police tied him to robberies at a local drug store and a 7-Eleven convenience store. He is being lodged at a juvenile detention center as he awaits further word on his juvenile crime charges.
The boy was one of three people to be arrested after an incident where an individual entered a drug store at around 9 p.m. one night and threw a smoke bomb. The assailant held the store’s staff at gunpoint and asked for pills.
While media reports did not go into further details, they stated that the individual eventually left the store without taking anything or harming anyone inside. However, about an hour later, police were called to a 7-Eleven where they believe the same individual was holding store clerks at gunpoint, this time demanding money. He ran from the scene with some of the cash.
Police eventually caught up with a vehicle they believed was tied to the suspected robber and pulled it over. There were three individuals inside, one of which ran away.
All three individuals were eventually rounded up by police and arrested. The other two individuals that accompanied the juvenile were believed to be in on the alleged robbery plot. They were arrested on a number of charges.
However, the juvenile received a majority of the charges because he was the one police believed entered both establishments to commit the robberies, while the two others waited outside. His charges ranged from use of a firearm in commission of a felony and abduction, to possessing an explosive device.
Juveniles are prosecuted in a different manner than adults. Still, charges as a juvenile can carry life-changing consequences. The boy will likely have legal aid in his corner that specializes in the terrain of the juvenile criminal justice system.
