Virginia doctor faces charges in fatal drunk driving accident

|

One of the biggest challenges for drivers is keep track of everything that is going on around the vehicle. When a driver is impaired by anything, such as fatigue or alcohol, the time it takes to respond to hazards might be affected. Serious accidents can happen when response time is negatively affected. These accidents can sometimes lead to criminal charges. For one Virginia doctor, a fatal accident involving a jogger has led to serious charges being filed against him.

The accident occurred when the 34-year-old jogger was jogging on the right side of East Patrick Henry Road. The 2008 Toyota Sequoia driven by the doctor, who is accused of drunk driving, ran off the side of the road and struck the jogger. The jogger died after being transported to the VCU Medical Center.

The doctor, who is board certified in internal medicine was charged with DUI and involuntary manslaughter. He is being held without bail at the Pamunkey Regional Jail pending his arraignment in Hanover General District Court.

Unfortunate accidents like this one occur on a regular basis. In this case, the victim’s family has to learn to deal with losing her. The driver of the vehicle now has to face serious criminal charges, and his family has to learn to deal with that situation. Because of the seriousness of the charges against this doctor, he must ensure that the way he answers to the charges is appropriate. Obtaining the help of an experienced Virginia criminal defense attorney might help him, and anyone else facing serious criminal charges, to learn how the consequences of the charges could potentially affect the future.
